Description
Oxycodone is an opioid-based narcotic analgesic and generic version medicine that relieves pain and aids in the treatment of a variety of conditions. Pain can range from mild, which can be short- or long-term, to severe, such as pain caused by cancer or injury.
There are two types of this medication: extended-release (ER) and immediate-release (IR). The FDA has approved the IR form for pain management. The ER version is approved as a long-term pain management when other medications are ineffective.
Oxycodone, a generic version, is utilized as an active component in a variety of branded drugs, including OxyContin, RoxyBond, Oxaydo, and Roxicodone. The drug is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, indicating a significant risk of overuse and misuse.
The 5 mg oxy pill can be characterized by its white color, round form, and imprint of M on one side and 05 52 on the other.
Function of Oxycodone 5 mg Medication
Among the three opioid receptors (mu, kappa, and delta), oxycodone binds to the mu-opioid receptor, or MOR. Following binding, the G-protein is activated and lowers the level of cAMP, or cyclic adenosine monophosphate.
The activation of the mu-opioid receptor blocks calcium channels while opening potassium channels. This is how the medicine acts as an analgesic, reducing pain.
